COCUY

the beauty of the uncontrollable

El Cocuy is a chain of mountains and snow-capped peaks that is located in the eastern cordillera of the Andes between the departments of Boyacá and Arauca. It is the largest glacial mass in Colombia made up of 22 peaks, some covered with ice and snow. The diversity of its landscapes, glaciers and deep blue water bodies show us its importance within the global ecological balance and water cycles.

THE BEAUTY OF THE UNCONTROLLED

The life of the Cocuy glaciers depends on an instant. A moment frozen in time that immortalizes and gives hope to the snowy peaks. We are talking about the second in which, under the right conditions,  water vapor crystallizes and turns into snowflakes.

This spontaneous event takes shape without possible human intervention and is governed solely by the uncontrollable forces of nature. Over time, these flakes turn back into water to flow over the rocks and reach lagoons, rivers and finally flow into the sea, evaporate and continue with the water cycle.

CONTRIBUTE TO THE MONITORING AND REFORESTATION OF OUR SNOW-COVERED PEAKS

With the purchase of the jewels of this collection you contribute to the monitoring of glaciers and the reforestation of the Cocuy peaks together with the organization CUMBRES BLANCAS COLOMBIA. They measure the state of melting of our glaciers with beacons: thin plastic tubes, which are buried vertically several meters deep in the ice in order to periodically sample the thickness of the glacier. Likewise, they restore the ecosystems of the páramo and high Andean forest through their program #AdoptYourFrailejón/NativeTree
